Connections and railway stations in Paris 

Paris has 7 city stations, including 5 that run our OUIGO services (Austerlitz, Bercy Bourgogne Pays d'Auvergne, Gare de l 'Est, Gare de Lyon and Montparnasse). Here's more information on the stations and the services they run:  

  • Paris Est: As its name suggests, trains from this railway station cover eastern France. The station is in the 10th arrondissement and easily accessible by public transport (RER E regional train, metro lines 4, 5, 7). You can get to Metz and Strasbourg from the Gare de l'Est. 

  • Paris Austerlitz and Paris Bercy Bourgogne Pays d'Auvergne : These two railway stations serve the whole of Burgundy and the Rhône-Alpes region. These stations are very close to each other (10-15 minutes by public transport or 20 minutes on foot). 

  • Paris Montparnasse: Trains from this station head to the southwest and its numerous tourist destinations (Tours, Poitiers, Bordeaux, Toulouse, La Rochelle…). It is also the railway station to use if you want to get to Brittany (Brest, Guingamp, Quimper, Rennes, Vannes). 

  • Paris Gare de Lyon: the station runs trains to the south of France (Antibes, Cannes, Marseille, Montpellier, Nice…). Like Austerlitz and Bercy stations, it also serves the Burgundy and Rhône-Alpes regions. 

So, as you can see, you can access any part of France from Paris and its train stations. But did you know that there are stations in the wider Paris region that also run OUIGO train services? You can easily reach them by regional public transport. So, what's the difference between these and Paris's central stations? None, except their location, they will still take you all over France!

What to do in Paris?

You've arrived in Paris, but don't know where to start? Here are some ideas to help you explore this iconic capital city. 

Let's start with the Iron Lady. To get there take the RER C regional train or metro line 6 to Trocadéro. Stroll along the Trocadero's esplanade and admire the gigantic 300 metre-high Eiffel Tower, designed by Gustave Eiffel.  
 
Continue your adventure by heading a short distance along the quay to one of the city's must-see museums, the Musée du Quai Branly. You can admire works from Africa, Asia, the Near East and other parts of the world that will plunge you into centuries of history and culture. If you're a museum fan, Paris has over 100. Among the best known that we also highly recommend: the Louvre, the Musée d 'Orsay, the Centre Pompidou, the Musée Jacquemart-André, the Musée Carnavalet… 
 
Paris is also a city of monuments. Must-sees to include during your stay: the Arc de Triomphe, Montmartre and its Basilica of the Sacred Heart, the Père Lachaise cemetery, the Moulin Rouge, the Concorde.  
Whatever you do, you'll soon realise that Paris is an open-air architectural wonder that is also packed with restaurants and quirky streets for a truly unforgettable experience. 

 

 


Public transport in Paris

 

As soon as you arrive in Paris, you will probably need to use public transport. Paris is one of the best-served cities in the world with 16 metro lines, 5 RER regional lines, hundreds of bus lines, trams and Transilian trains… public transport remains the best way to get around Paris.  
A Paris metro ticket costs €1.90. 1 metro ticket = 1 journey with connections, so if you plan to use the metro often, opt for a Navigo Jour one-day travel pass (from €7.50). 

The metro operates from 5.30 am to 12.40 am (1.30 am – 1.40 am on Saturday nights). You can also hop on one of the many buses, RER trains, trams and Transilian lines if you need to get to the outskirts. 
 

Cycling fans can opt for Vélib’ bike rental. It costs €1 for every 30 minutes for a classic Vélib’, and €3 for the first 45 minutes followed by €2 every 30 minutes for a Vélib’ e-bike. With 1,400 Vélib’ bike stations in Paris and more than 1,000 km of cycle lanes, you will be able to peddle around Paris to your heart's content!
