Train Stations in Spain
The Spanish railway network is one of the most complete in Europe. It has grown without interruptions since the first high-speed line was inaugurated in 1992. The last decades have been characterised by large investments focused on modernising and updating an infrastructure that had become obsolete.
In record time, Spain has achieved the second largest high-speed network in the world (the first is in China). Other services have also been upgraded, such as suburban and medium-distance lines, which supplement and facilitate passenger travels throughout the country.
According to ADIF data, Spain has 1,450 train stations throughout Spain. The main cities boast modern and functional stations, most of which are centrally located and well connected.

In 2021, Spanish trains welcomed almost 410 million passengers and the use of high-speed trains increased by 61.5% compared to the previous year. There are many reasons why the train is the means of transport chosen by so many people. Here are some of them:
- Train stations are located in central areas of cities and are accessible by public transport or on foot, facilitating the movement of travellers without causing additional travel costs, as is the case with airports. In addition, they are modern and spacious stations, with all the services that travellers may need.
- The train is the most sustainable and environmentally friendly mode of transport. The carbon footprint of each passenger is much lower than other types of transport, such as air or car travel.
- Travelling by train is comfortable, fun and very entertaining. You have plenty of room to sit and stretch your legs. You enjoy the magnificent scenery and can use the journey to read, relax, watch a series or have a coffee.
