Aiguamúrcia

Aiguamúrcia is a small village in the Alt Camp region, situated between Montagut Hill and the Montmell mountain range, on one bank of the River Gaià and surrounded by vineyards. Its municipal area is the largest in the region and encompasses several small hamlets and the monastery of Santes Creus, belonging to the Cistercian Order. This abbey has been declared a National Monument and is the only monastery on the Route of the Royal Monasteries of Catalonia where monastic life is no longer practised; it has been converted into a cultural centre.

Altafulla

Altafulla is an attractive town on the Costa Dorada and one of the beaches closest to Zaragoza; as such, every summer it is visited by many people from Aragon, as well as holidaymakers from elsewhere. It is a pleasant town with a peaceful atmosphere where, as well as relaxing and enjoying a holiday, visitors can explore the remains of a Roman villa and other architectural ruins designated as a Site of National Interest by the Government of Catalonia and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Horta de Sant Joan

Horta de Sant Joan is a picturesque village in the Terra Alta region. Bordering the Aragonese region of Matarraña, its municipal area includes part of the Ports Natural Park.

Its old town has been declared a Cultural Asset of National Interest due to its historical and artistic heritage, notably the charming medieval alleyways that lead to the square in front of the 13th-century parish church.

Other places of interest include the Ecomuseu dels Ports, El Parot – a two-thousand-year-old olive tree recognised as a monumental tree – and the Centre Picasso, as the painter found refuge in this peaceful spot.

La Vilella Baixa

La Vilella Baixa is a small village with a population of 202 that surprises and charms its visitors. It belongs to the Priorat region and is the gateway to the Montsant mountain range. This village is full of interesting spots, such as the tall houses, six storeys or more high, overlooking the Escaladei ravine – which have earned it the nickname ‘the New York of the Priorat’ – the Carrer que no passa (the ‘Street that doesn’t go through’), the Stone Bridge over the River Montsant, and the square and church of St John the Baptist.

Prades

Prades, in the Baix Camp region, is known as the ‘Vila Vermella’ (Red Town) due to the colour of the sandstone used in buildings dating from the Muslim period. Of Arab origin, this town was one of the most important counties of the Crown of Aragon. As a result, the walls surrounding the old town remain, and these, together with the remains of the castle, the entrance archway, the arcaded square, the Gothic church of Santa María la Major, the hermitage of la Mare de Déu de l’Abellera and the monumental spherical fountain, form a valuable historical heritage, as does the magnificent natural setting of Prades, much loved by enthusiasts of hiking and mountain activities.

Siurana

Siurana combines the well-preserved appearance of its architecture and historic centre with the magnificence of its surroundings. This medieval village is situated in the Priorat region and is considered one of the finest vantage points in Spain.

Highlights include the Romanesque church of Santa María and the remains of the 9th-century Al-Andalus fortress, which stand imposingly on a rocky outcrop 730 metres above sea level, bordering a precipice with a drop of over 250 metres.

Its natural surroundings feature several climbing routes on the high limestone cliffs, hiking trails and the Siurana reservoir, where visitors can swim and enjoy water sports.

Tamarit

Tamarit is a charming coastal village with one of the most beautiful beaches in Tarragona, situated at the foot of the castle perched on a promontory overlooking the sea. Alongside the Romanesque castle, the Vila Closa complex stands out: an ancient walled medieval settlement dating from the 11th century, declared a Cultural Asset of National Interest, comprising the former municipal prisons, the Church of the Assumption, the vicarage, the Town Hall, the church square, two towers, several houses, a 16th-century battery and the remains of the wall built during the reign of Peter III the Ceremonious.

Vimbodí-Poblet

Vimbodí i Poblet is a small municipality in the Conca de Barberà region, brimming with beautiful spots. Its main attraction is the Cistercian monastery of Poblet, which lies within its municipal boundaries. Built in the 12th century, it has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a National Monument by the Spanish Government. Within the town itself, there are several points of interest, such as the Glass Museum (Museu del Vidre), the old flour mills, the Gothic Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord, and Carrer de les Abraçades (Street of the Hugs), which is just 94 centimetres wide. It is the narrowest street in Catalonia, and two people can only pass each other at the same time if they are holding each other in an embrace.
