Connecting OUIGO journeys: how they work

Changing trains along the way and worried about missing your connection? Don't panic! A connecting OUIGO journey brings several trains together in a single travel booking, with a guarantee in case of the unexpected. We'll explain everything, simply: how it works, what the connection guarantee covers, what to do if you miss a connection and how you're compensated in the event of a delay. You can set off with peace of mind, even when your route involves two trains.

Please note that when you book, your basket will show the price of each leg of the connection separately (if one adult travel alone with a child on a journey with a single connection, the basket will show 2 tickets for the first train and 2 tickets for the second, connecting train). This lets you choose your à la carte options separately for each part of the journey, for each passenger (except the OUIGOFLEX and Name change options, which always apply to the whole journey, connections included).

What is a connecting OUIGO journey?

A connecting OUIGO journey is a single travel booking that brings together several trains in succession. One change, two OUIGO trains, zero stress: you book everything in one go, and change trains at an intermediate station to reach your final destination.

Depending on the trains available between your departure station and your arrival station, the journey can combine two OUIGO High Speed trains, two OUIGO Train Classique trains, or one of each. For the time being, these “OUIGO + OUIGO” tickets can only be booked on the OUIGO website and app. In practice, this means you have a single point of contact for your whole journey.

The OUIGO connection guarantee

If you miss your connection because of OUIGO, you are automatically rebooked free of charge on the next available train. That's the heart of the connection guarantee: a problem on the first train never leaves you stranded on the platform.

Assistance is also provided on board and at the station to guide you. What's more, if the solution offered exceptionally means waiting until the next day, your accommodation costs are covered. This guarantee applies because your trains are in the same booking: OUIGO knows your complete journey and acts without you having to buy anything again.

What should I do if I miss my connection?

If you miss your connection because of a OUIGO delay, stay at the station and follow the teams' instructions: your rebooking is automatic. If in doubt, assistance is available on board and on site to point you towards the next train.

Here's what to do in practice. First, don't buy another ticket yourself. Then, speak to an SNCF agent at the station or follow the procedure indicated. Finally, if no solution is possible on the same day, accommodation is covered while you wait for the next day's train.

Something came up before taking the first train?

Something unexpected? With OUIGO, no worries! If a personal emergency stops you from travelling, you can exchange your connecting journey for €19. That's the same price as an exchange on a journey without a connection, even though two trains are involved.

You can make this exchange from your “My trips” area, just like with a standard ticket. However, this rule applies to an unexpected event on your side: if it's OUIGO that disrupts your journey, the connection guarantee applies, free of charge.

OUIGO compensation in the event of a delay

In the event of a delay on a connecting OUIGO journey, only the train that was delayed is considered for a compensation request. The two trains are therefore not added together: it's the delay of the train concerned that is assessed.

You also remain covered by the connection guarantee if the problem comes from OUIGO. Compensation, however, is assessed train by train, according to the delay recorded. Remember to keep your travel booking as proof.
