What to see in Alicante?

Its privileged climate and long Mediterranean beaches are irresistible attractions. However, Alicante has much more to discover. The Calle Mayor, lined with bars and restaurants, leads to the old town and the Barrio de Santa Cruz, whose narrow, white-walled streets with colourful, flower-filled façades make for an idyllic Mediterranean scene. You can reach the hermitages of San Roque and Santa Cruz, at the foot of Mount Benacantil, at the top of which stands the Castle of Santa Bárbara, which you can reach by following the Ereta park. In turn, the Explanada de España links the Santa Cruz neighbourhood with the beach and Canalejas Park.

OUIGO's secret advice

Between the squares of the Town Hall and Santísima Faz, in the Santa Cruz neighbourhood, you will find an 18th-century Baroque palace that houses the Alicante Town Hall. Look at the first step of the steps and you will see a plaque indicating that this is Spain's Cota Cero, i.e. the point that marks the zero level of altitude above sea level.
