There is only one railway station in Nantes, so don't worry about getting lost or turning up at the  wrong station! But in order to avoid any nasty surprises, here's all you need to know about Nantes  SNCF railway station: 

The station is located right in the city centre, which is the perfect starting point for a city tour. 

Several bus and tram lines stop at the station. You can walk around the city centre and also venture into its outskirts. 

There is assistance for reduced mobility travellers, for example, if you use a wheelchair or are visually impaired… 

To get to Nantes, there are trains from the north including a Paris service that passes through Angers and Le Mans.

What to do in Nantes?

To ensure you have a fantastic trip to Nantes, here's a list of the city's attractions and activities. 


Your tour can begin as soon as you arrive in the city. The Castle of the Dukes of Brittany, which overlooks the city centre, is a 20-minute walk from the station. This major city landmark was built between the 14th and 17th centuries! 


Nantes has a condensed city centre with plenty of things to do. Close to the Château des Ducs deBretagne you'll find the Jardin des Plantes, a large botanical garden where you can enjoy a picnic and  a stroll along flower-lined paths! 


Finally, you shouldn't leave city without visiting its many cultural highlights: not far from the Jardin  des Plantes is the Cathedral of Saint-Pierre and Saint-Paul, where you will find the tomb of Francis II,  the last Duke of Brittany. There are also plenty of museums, including the Museum of Arts, the Jules  Verne Museum, the Museum of Natural History… 

Public transportation in Nantes

With 3 tram lines and numerous bus services, Nantes' outskirts are easily accessible. 

And getting around is a cinch: a public transport ticket costs €1.70 and is valid for 1 hour. If you plan  to explore the whole city, you can opt for a book of 10 tickets at €16 for 1-hour tickets or buy 24-  hour tickets for €6. 

And to make things even easier, in 2021 the municipality of Nantes implemented free transport on  weekends! Yet another reason to pay the city a visit!
