OUIGO and the Olympic Games: follow the flame! Let's GO!

You can´t have missed it: this summer France is hosting the 2024 Olympics! Paris has a date with the Summer Olympic Games. From 26 July, the Olympic flame will burn in the capital. But before that, it will be taking a short tour of France...

Do you want to visit Paris to feel the beating heart of the Olympic Games? Or say “hi” to the most famous sporting torch in the world? OUIGO will take you there.

The Olympics is not just about Paris!

It's not just about the city. The impact of the games can be felt far further afield! Of course, OUIGO trains don't quite go as far as Martinique or French Guyana - not yet, but who knows what the future holds?

If you don't want to miss a single leg of the flame's journey, keep an eye out for the information.  The Ocean Relay will be held from 8-17 June.  This will be taking place in Guyana (Cayenne), Réunion (Saint-Denis), French Polynesia (Papeete), Guadeloupe (Baie-Mahault) and Martinique (Fort-de-France).

And of course, the arrival of the flame in Paris is far from the end of the adventure.  Not only are the Olympic Games taking place, but so too are the Paralympic Games, from 28 August to 8 September!

Take advantage of the Olympics to see France!

With OUIGO High-Speed trains, you can take advantage of the Olympics to discover all that France has to offer outside Paris! France’s major cities are all covered by our TGV station network. Travel beyond city limits to explore new cities and experience a new setting!

While you're in France in summer 2024, pay a visit to…

  • Marseille, which will host Olympic Games events in two venues: in the Marseille Marina, and at the city’s stadium. Marseille is a city in the South of France that's well worth a visit! Attractions include its beaches, its passion for football, and its popular and vibrant districts, not to mention the Mucem (The Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilisations)!
  • Nice - one of the oldest French resorts, and home to the famous "Promenade des Anglais". In addition, its stadium will host 6 Olympic football matches: 3 women's and 3 men's matches.
  • Lyon, the Olympique Lyonnais stadium will open its doors to spectators for Olympic football events. Why not take the opportunity to discover Lyon? With its "bouchons" (small typical restaurants where you can sample family cuisine – incredibly tasty and very French!), the banks of the Rhone, the Presqu'île in the city centre, the museums and parks…
  • Bordeaux, the land of culture and sport, is taking part in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games as the "Host Community" for the Olympic women's and men's football tournaments! 7 matches will be hosted there, from 24 July to 2 August, at the Matmut Atlantique Stadium. But don't stop there - visit the Bordeaux’s Old Town, and sample its delicious canelés before admiring the largest water mirror in Europe and finally heading for the sea and the Pilat dune!
  • Nantes will also be dancing to the rhythm of football! The Beaujoire Stadium in Nantes will welcome you in for a number of matches. Once the score has been decided, you can explore the city - the Slavery Museum, for a touch of history, the Île de Nantes Machines to fuel your imagination, and some Nantes Cake for dessert!
  • Do you want to discover a region that foreign visitors often overlook? Head to the North of France, to the Stade Pierre-Mauroy in Villeneuve d'Ascq, on the outskirts of the Lille Metropole area. When you travel to Lille by OUIGO High-Speed train you'll see that, as the saying goes, the North is sure to warm your heart! Lille is known for "mussels and chips", washed down with some local beer (in moderation of course), and a waffle - leaving nothing to waste. And finally… in Lille we really know how to whip fans into a frenzy in our stadiums! This is an experience that should not be missed before you continue your journey of exploration to the northern beaches or take in the lights of Paris - a more traditional destination that never fails to impress.
